Alabbar and Morgan headline AB event

by Arabian Business staff

Emaar chairman Mohammed Alabbar and former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan are to headline this year’s Arabian Business Media & Marketing Conference.

Both men last night confirmed their attendance at the two day event, being held in Dubai on November 11 and 12.
Alabbar is to deliver a keynote address on how Emaar has grown from a regional to global brand in just a matter of years. Under his leadership, the company has become one of the world’s most successful - and profitable - property developers.

Morgan, meanwhile, will speak on the power of celebrities in media, drawing on his 10 years experience as a UK tabloid editor.

Morgan was fired from the Daily Mirror three years ago after printing fake pictures of Iraqis being abused by British soldiers. He has since gone on to write two best selling books, and become a major US and UK television personality.

Morgan said: “I visited Dubai two years ago and thought the place had great energy and a great vibe to it, so I’m really looking forward to coming back.”

Ironically, Morgan will be speaking in Dubai just days before a speech in the emirate by his old adversary, former Downing Street spin doctor Alastair Campbell.

Also speaking at the conference - which will be chaired by ITP Chairman Andrew Neil - will be the Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Amanda Bennett, Etihad CEO James Hogan and Virgin Atlantic Communications Director Paul Charles.

The full line up of speakers is expected to be announced next week.

Arabian Business editor James Bennett said: “Getting both Alabbar and Morgan is a great achievement for us. Mohammed Alabbar has shown himself to be a marketing genius in the way he has made Emaar a global giant, whilst on the media stage, they don’t come much bigger than Piers Morgan. ”
