Emaar to tout global portfolio

Considering the UAE fixation with being the home of all things big and best (think Burj Dubai or the Palm Jumeirah), it's appropriate that Dubai is set to host the world's largest business-to-business real estate event this month.

Dubai-based Emaar, one of the world's largest real estate companies, is a major Cityscape sponsor and set to market its wide range of recently launched international projects at the expo.

Nader Mohammed, regional managing director at Emaar International, said Cityscape is an important platform for publicising the firm's massive international expansion. While Emaar does not plan to launch any new projects at Cityscape this year, they are using the platform to market and publicise the developments launched in 16 countries over the past 24 months, he said.

"We see Cityscape as an opportunity to showcase these projects and their upcoming phases. We are developing a major focus and presence internationally, and Cityscape is a major event where we can showcase this presence to investors. "Cityscape creates an opportunity to show our events and to take our name and reputation beyond Dubai, and to create confidence in our global brand."

Over the past 24 months, Emaar has announced over US$60bn worth of foreign development globally. One of the key projects of the company is the King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) in Saudi Arabia, which has a development value of over US$26.6bn, he said.

"The KAEC is one of our biggest projects ever but we have interests in Syria, Jordan Morocco, Egypt, India, Lebanon and Turkey. We also acquired John Laing Homes, the second largest privately-held home builder for US$1bn in 2006.

Emaar is also huge in India, firstly with gated communities, second with retail and then hospitality."
