Cityscape Dubai 2007, the world's largest business-to-business real estate investment and development event, kicks off today marking the start of what is expected to be a busy week for the property industry.

This year's event, its 6th edition, is expected to exceed 2006 with over 45,000 real estate professionals and investors participating, according to the show's organisers.
There will also be a strong international flavour this year with more than 120 countries present.

"Cityscape is a business-to-business event attracting institutional investors interested in projects around the world...[who are] prepared to invest over $5 million," said Rohan Marwaha, group director of Cityscape for IIR Middle East, organisers of Cityscape Dubai 2007.

"The event has been very successful in attracting the truly big real estate institutions, banks, investments companies and funds," he added.

The region's big property firms have already announced they will be unveiling major projects at the show this year.

Dubai Properties is set to launch two new projects to be built within the Business Bay and Dubailand developments in the emirate worth a combined total of 40 billion dirhams ($10.9 billion) at the show this week, but has so far not given further details.

Property firm Limitless - part of state-owned conglomerate Dubai World - will also be displaying its $11 billion, 75-kilometre Arabian Canal project at Cityscape this week.

The canal is part of the company's $61 billion project to build an extensive waterfront development in the emirate.

Last year's event broke records before it began with announcements of $160 billion worth of real estate projects - a seven-fold increase on the $20 billion announced at the previous year's show.

The event - taking place on October 18 at Dubai International Exhibition Centre - also features the World Architectural Congress and the Cityscape Architectural Review Awards.
