Second Ibis hotel for DWTC

by Joe Mortimer

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has appointed hotel management firm Accor Hospitality to manage a 588-room hotel in Dubai Trade Centre District (DTCD).

The hotel will be branded under the company's Ibis brand, providing business-economy accommodation for visitors coming to DTCD, when it opens its doors in the first quarter of 2011.
"We have firm plans in place to develop DTCD into the world's leading integrated commercial destination for the business travellers and the provision of quality, comfortable accommodation is a core part of that strategy," said Helal Al Marri, director general, DWTC.

"The expertise of this management team, coupled with the ideal location of the new Ibis hotel will provide a compelling offering within Dubai's fast growing hospitality sector."

Accor has held the management contract for the Ibis World Trade Centre hotel, adjacent to the Dubai International Conference and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) since it opened in 2003.

Phase one of DTCD will feature more than 240,000m2 of office space and a range of meeting, hospitality and retail facilities, when it is completed in 2011.

Ensuing phases will include conference and convention facilities.

"DWTC is in the process of finalising agreements with major hotel operators, from the highest end of the luxury segment though to business economy, to ensure access to a wide range of options for executives and visitors," Al Marri added.

DTCD is one of two major developments currently being undertaken by DWTC, the second being Dubai Exhibitions World (DEW) in Jebel Ali.

The new developments will add more than 10,000 new hotel rooms to the UAE's portfolio when they are complete.
