$27k fountain naming competition launched

Dubai developer Emaar Properties on Monday launched a competition to find a name for its mega water fountain to be built in Burj Dubai Lake next to the world's tallest building.

The competition runs from July 1 to September 15, with the winner receiving a cash prize of 100,000 dirhams ($27,000), the company said in a statement.
The winner will be selected by a panel comprising Emaar’s senior management, architects and brand consultants.

UAE residents can suggest one name, which must be submitted online through a dedicated web page on Emaar website.

The developer said the fountains would be capable of shooting water over 150 metres into the air - the height of a 50-storey building - and stretch over 275 metres - the length of two football fields.

The $218 million project will be 25 percent larger than the iconic fountains at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, Emaar said.

Emaar said that like the Fountains of Bellagio its fountains would include an integral light and sound show and was expected to become one of Dubai’s major tourist attractions, drawing over 10 million visitors per year.

The fountains would shoot 22,000 gallons of water in the air at any given moment and feature over 6,600 lights and 50 colour projectors, it said.
