Indian gov't probes construction death
The fatal beating of an Indian construction worker in Saudi Arabia is under investigation by the Indian government, it has emerged.
The Indian government has asked authorities in Saudi to probe the circumstances which saw the worker die from injuries allegedly sustained during an assault by his Egyptian workplace supervisor.
A spokesperson for the Indian Embassy told Saudi daily Arab News a government investigation was underway into the death of Sudheesh Kalathil Parambil Narayanan, 34, who died two weeks after the alleged assault.
According to reports, Narayanan allegedly got into an altercation with his workplace supervisor on July 13 when the supervisor was seen physically assaulting a colleague.
Narayanan reportedly attempted to defend his colleague, and was critically injured in the resulting attack from his supervisor. He died in a Riyadh hospital on July 27.
According to Arab News the Egyptian supervisor who allegedly beat Narayanan has not been arrested, or charged.
