Build Safe Dubai to go nationwide

by Greg Whitaker

Safety organisation Build Safe Dubai has announced a proposal to going national. While the information generated from local accidents and near misses is currently available for free to anybody wants it, there is a suggestion that the organisation could do more if it could accept signatories from other emirates.

In a statement, BSD chairman, also Dutco Balfour Beatty GM, Grahame McCaig said:
“The impact of the Build Safe Dubai initiative on the UAE Construction Industry has proved phenomenal, so much so that we are being continuously asked how we can expand this initiative and make it more "national”.

“We cannot ignore the fact that at the present time we are closely associated with the Emirate of Dubai and that this fact does pose certain issues with regards to signatory membership and wider industry collaboration and participation.

“As a natural progression of the current thinking, we are proposing to reform as the Build Safe UAE initiative.

“The proposal involves having Build Safe UAE operate in the exact same principles as the Build Safe Dubai concept, however rebranding the initiative to facilitate increased membership and therefore encourage and promote wider industry collaboration, participation & sharing of ‘Best Practice Safety Information’.

“We ask our current 58 signatory member organisations to kindly consider this proposal and support our intention to collaborate with construction related stakeholders outside of Dubai to improve the current standards of construction health, safety & welfare practice in the UAE.” In the meantime, information and statistics from the organisation can be found on its website.
