by Lauren Hills

Landscape contractor Citiscape has been contracted to work on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

The company has been appointed as the landscape and hardscape contractor on the project, in a contract worth approximately US$95.2 million.
“We will be doing all the landscaping for Formula One, Yas Island. Citiscape won the contract last month,” Nabeel Hassan, marketing manager at Citiscape told Commercial Outdoor Design at last month’s Gulf Landscaping show in Abu Dhabi.

“We will be doing the landscape, the streetscape, and all the areas around the racing area. We have to have it done by October next year before the Formula One in November,” he added.

Under development by Aldar, Yas Island is a US$40 billion project that will include a retail centre, hotels, leisure complex and a motor racing circuit set to be operational by November 2009.

Other firms working on Yas Island include landscape practice Cracknell, which is doing detail landscape design of all arterial streetscapes and public open space on the island.

In addition to Yas Island, Citiscape’s project portfolio includes the palace for HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Al Meydan racetrack. The firm recently completed work on Atlantis, Palm Jumeirah.
