Abu Dhabi families face eviction

by Dylan Bowman

Families living in apartments within partitioned villas in Abu Dhabi face eviction as the municipality cracks down on illegally converted homes.

The municipality has issued notices to villas across the city that their partitions were build without approval and that tenants would be evicted and the partitions demolished, UAE daily The National reported on Sunday.
Many low-income families facing eviction said they would struggle to find alternative accommodation in a city already suffering from a shortage of affordable housing, according to the newspaper.

The crackdown follows a fire in a number of makeshift apartments on the roof of a building on Airport Road.
