I understand the safety aspects and concern for human safety is essential. I have witnessed some of these dwellings when I was trying to find accommodation. My opinion is that the landlords have violated the municipal regulations and have led the tenant down the garden path; so to speak. In many instances I have asked if the partitions are legal (which in my opinion obviously not when you have plumbing and electrical wiring running bare from one end to another and partitions are nothing more than a slither or hardboard) and have been told yes by the landlord/agent... yeagh right!!! This has clearly been driven by the absolute greed of the owner/landlord. If the municipality were to be fare and "act" appropriately; the landlord should be fined and the tenant should be given a percentage of his rental as compensation. Times are desperate for all except the landlords who are still being driven by greed. Where is their sense of humanity? Is this what the UAE is all about, sheer greed? Lets hope not and lets see the municipality doing something about the situation, fine the landlords for a substantial amount (if anything the years earnings from there make-shift apartments) anything less would be a a joke to them. Lets make this country seem more appealing for people to come and live and work and not always feel they are being ripped off for everything. Come on landlords, have some compassion. It is those that rent that built this country for you and allow you to drive your fancy cars.
