4. Atkins
Providing technology-based consultancy and support services to industry, commerce and governments, Atkins is an architectural powerhouse, operating in all of the world's major economies with over 16,000 staff.
The firm's Middle East division carried out its first design and supervision commissions in the Gulf area in 1967 and, from its regional head office in Dubai, now employs 1,600 people with projects in the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and India.
In the Middle East, Atkins has won particular acclaim for its work with Jumeirah - in the shape of the Burj al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Wild Wadi Aqua Park - as well as for Bahrain's stunning wind-powered World Trade Centre.
