Kuwait's ruler reappoints nephew as prime minister

by Rania El Gamal

Kuwait's ruler has reappointed his nephew Sheikh Nasser Al Mohammad Al Sabah as prime minister to form a new government after Saturday's parliamentary elections, state news agency KUNA said.

The cabinet resigned in March to avert a request by lawmakers to question Sheikh Nasser, a senior member of the ruling family, after a protracted political crisis that had delayed key economic reforms and virtually paralysed decision-making in the world's fourth-largest oil exporter.

The ruler, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, dissolved parliament in March to end the standoff.
Sheikh Nasser will pick the new ministers in his cabinet and present their names to the Amir for final approval, KUNA reported, citing a decree by the ruler. (Reuters)
