PMS prevents doubling up at DFC

The InterContinental and Crowne Plaza at Dubai Festival City (DFC) have announced plans to implement the Delphi Multi-Property Edition sales and banqueting software solution from Newmarket International, in time for their Q1 launch.

The property management system (PMS) will be used for booking conference space within the different hotels, or at the 4500m² Events Centre, which will be a shared resource for all of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) properties at DFC.
Software developer, Newmarket International, provides sales, group catering and banqueting solutions to the hospitality sector worldwide, and previously installed its technology at IHG properties in the US and Europe.

“We needed to carry our standards of quality and service [consistently] right through our events and banqueting business,” explained Tom Meyer, area general manager, IHG, DFC.

“The success that other InterContinental Hotels Group properties have had with Delphi assured us that we would be building our groups, conference, and events business in the UAE on a strong foundation of technology and service.”

Revenue manager for the IHG properties at DFC, Rob Clarke, headed up the software implementation project and has been co-ordinating with the group’s head office in the UK on the deployment. He told Hotelier the PMS would speed up the booking process for the Events Centre, which will offer conference and events space across two levels, divisible into ten break-out rooms, as well as a 24-hour business centre and hi-speed Wi-Fi internet access in all public areas.

“This is one of the first multi-property installations of its kind in the region,” said Clark. “You can upload all the details about capacities and layouts, architectural drawings and so on, on to the system, which means that guests’ requests can be dealt with more efficiently,” he explained.

“Traditionally, the conference team would make its bookings on its own systems, and then would have to e-mail the reservations department. This solution cuts out this double handling of enquiries, however.”

IHG is aiming to establish the DFC properties as a hub for MICE events, which Clark believes is the logical direction for the Dubai market’s future development.
