Legal dispute stalls SED panel launch

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer

Canon and partner Toshiba are reportedly reconsidering plans to invest more than US$1.7 billion in establishing a surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) panel manufacturing plant in Japan. The announcement follows a patent dispute with US-based Nano-Proprietary Incorporated over the rights to manufacture panels based on SED technology.

Nano-Proprietary purports to hold various patents to core SED technologies.
The latest setback follows Canon and Toshiba's decision to delay the launch of SED TVs in a bid to improve the cost competitiveness of the technology.
