ETA wins Al Raha development contract
ETA will act as the MEP contractor on the Al Raha Gardens development in Abu Dhabi.
The development, which will be serviced by its own district cooling plant, is made up of three, four and five bedroom Arabic and European style villas.
A third of the overall financial costs of US$ 462 million (AED 1.7 billion) will be spent on MEP works. Project manager Alistair Grant said: "At the moment we have a temporary [district cooling] plant with Tabreed. It is providing for the needs of the development as it stands today, but a permanent centre will be opened in September this year and will service the whole development."
The capacity of the plant has yet to be finalised, but it will provide cooling for over 1380 residential villas plus a town centre that will consist of commercial centres, a hospital, a health club and three schools.
The maintenance of the MEP works will also be mainly in-house. Resident manager Martin Shaw said: "All the maintenance with regards to MEP will be provided by Aldar. Only if the problem is very specialist and out of our technical expertise will we outsource."
The development is due to be completed in 2011.
