RTA launches Dubai-Sharjah bus route

Dubai's transport authority on Saturday launched a new bus service between Dubai and Sharjah in an effort to help ease nightmare traffic between the two UAE emirates.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the route, known as the E311, will go between Al-Qusais station in Dubai and Al-Jubail station in Sharjah and be served by 10 buses, including four double-decker buses.

Including the E311, the RTA operates 11 routes between Dubai and Sharjah.

The route between the two emirates is one of the worst traffic hotspots in the UAE, with commutes taking up to a couple of hours every day.

Authorities have been criticised for the lack of public transport between the two emirates, which forces the majority of people to drive.

Essa Abdul Rahman Al-Dosari, CEO of the RTA Public Transport Agency, said in a statement the agency was looking for a "clear improvement on the quality of service on Dubai-Sharjah route following the introduction of these buses".

The RTA said buses on the E311 route would start off from Al-Qusais Station to Al Jubail Station at 4.00pm and the service would continue up to 11.30pm, from Saturday to Thursday.

On Fridays and official holidays buses would be operated from 7.00am up to 11.30pm, it said.

"The RTA said buses on the E311 route would start off from Al-Qusais Station to Al Jubail Station at 4.00pm and the service would continue up to 11.30pm, from Saturday to Thursday." The worst traffic hours when you need clearer roads most are in the early morning. Why don't they have this service on working days from 6 am onwards? This is when people really need this type of service. And what about the Metro - or above ground? Why isn't there a route between Sharjah and Dubai? Not only are people getting mediocre pay but they have to get ulcers just so they can get to work on time!!!

WOW, I wonder why it took them so long to come up with this BRILLIANT idea?

It's about time!!! The RTA and other authorities need to increase buses in heavily congested areas and create seperate bus lanes on all major routes. Until then, the problem's not going to get solved.

Is that a typo saying starting from 4pm on weekdays? If its not, i don't know how the buses are going to help the working force. Editor's note: 4pm is what was in the information sent to Arabian Business.
