Female nurses in Saudi Arabia have been issued with strict guidelines for how to dress and behave while at work, according to a report from the kingdom.
The Ministry of Health has reminded female nurses and technicians working in holy sites during Haj to dress modestly and cover the head with non-transparent scarves, Saudi Gazette reported.
As in many parts of the world, nurses are forbidden from wearing gold or other jewellery, nail polish, make-up and high-heeled shoes. They can only wear watches and rings and shoes should not make a noise while walking along corridors.
Female staff are also banned from leaving the hospital without an official permit and male guardian, from visiting hospital storage warehouses or “roaming aimlessly in the hospital’s courtyards”, the newspaper said.
