A Saudi prince paid half a million dollars to meet ‘Twilight’ actress Kristen Stewart for 15 minutes, according to media reports in the US.

The actress, who shot to fame playing the character Bella Swan in the ‘Twilight’ vampire movie franchise, agreed to meet the unnamed royal at Madison Square Garden in New York last December and in return he agreed to make a donation of $500,000 to a Hurricane Sandy charity fund, the New York Post reported.

The meeting was negotiated by movie studio boss Harvey Weinsten, who told reporters at the Toronto Film Festival he was approached by the Saudi prince eager to meet the 23-year-old star.

Today Prince Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud extended help to Filipinos who were affected by the super typhoon Yolanda that hit the Philippines last week by donating $100,000. I hope that the prince who spend $500,000 on Kirsten will learn from Prince Talal. Prince Talal didn't need to hide his identity because he was following the teachings of Islam by helping those in need.

There are apparently 3-4 million Saudis or an estimated 25/30% of Saudi families living below the poverty line. The poverty line in Saudi was worked out at US$17 per day and US$530 per month. A twitter account with the title " the salary doesn't need my needs" got 17million tweets recently. Instead of Saudi royals squandering their millions of dollars on trivialities they could help their nationals living in poverty. I just read a story about a Saudi princess who spent US$ 3million on a special slimming program, after which she gained 3pounds weight. Are these Saudi royals out of touch with reality.

Fortunately I have time to get involved with social and rights issues. Managing numerous rental properties I own takes little of my time. This reckless and irresponsible wasting of money by Saudi royals is not going unnoticed worldwide or amonst Saudi citizens. It reminds me of the times of Marie Antoinette.

Shaheen,
It appears that you have nothing else to do in the UK but keeping watch on how the Saudi "royals" spend their money.
