Saudi schools to search students for weapons

Schools in the Medina region of Saudi Arabia have been ordered to regularly search male students for weapons after a string of violent fights.

The Medina Education Department has become increasingly concerned over the use of weapons in school fights, with students caught wielding blades, knives and scissors, Arab News reported.

In its notice to teachers requesting they search students, the department also warned against using sticks to punish the boys, as well as the use of abusive language.

A media campaign also will be launched warning about the dangers of carrying weapons.
