Sharjah bans smoking in public places

Sharjah has ordered a ban on smoking in all public places, it was announced on Tuesday.

Lighting up in public will be prohibited under a decision issued by member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, emirates news agency Wam reported.

Civic authorities have been handed the responsibility of issuing fines to enforce the ban, which comes into effect in two months, Wam said.
