Sharjah Transport Corporation (STC) announced on Sunday that it had carried more than 3.535 million passengers to different destinations across the UAE, from its base in Sharjah in the first half of 2010.
The figures represented an estimated average growth of 10.9% in comparison to the previous year’s figures of 3.169 million, during the same time period.
Abdullah Mohammed Al Zarri, director general, STC, said that one of the main factors that drove this growth was the operation of five new routes between January 1, 2010 and June 30, 2010.
In addition, there was a 31 percent rise in the number of trips, which jumped to 114,934 trips, an increase of35,655 in comparison to the same period in the first half of 2009, where trips were estimated at 79,279.
Adel Khalil, head of intercity transport, said that the Sharjah-Dubai route was the busiest line on the route, with passengers surging to 2.428,849 million in the first half of the year, up 15,090 passengers over the corresponding half of last year.
