Sir Elton John will join a growing list of the world's biggest music stars to play in Abu Dhabi when he performs at Yas Arena, Yas Island on March 29.

Tickets are set to go on sale soon for the concert, promotors Flash said on its website.

Sir Elton John will share the stage with percussionist Ray Cooper and the live performance will be based on their famous two-man show that has taken them around the world.

He previously played at the 2010 Dubai World Cup event at Meydan.

The announcement of the music legend's UAE gig comes hot on the heels of US pop star Madonna’s concert in Abu Dhabi on June 3 selling out in just over an hour.

Coldplay, Janet Jackson and Britney Spears have all recently played Abu Dhabi while Chris Brown and Kasabian have played in neighbouring Dubai with Duran Duran set to appear next month.

Last September it was reported that Sir Elton John was suing a Dubai-based banker for failing to honour a $1.1m donation to his AIDS foundation.

UK media said UAE-based Spencer Lodge pledged the cash for a ‘date’ with the British singer during a charity auction at Sir Elton’s White Tie and Tiara Ball in June 2010.

The event, held at the singer’s mansion, featured a performance by Lady Gaga and helped raise over £5m for the Foundation.
