Sky News joins HD offering on Orbit Showtime

News channel becomes latest to launch in high definition for pay TV provider.

Sky News has launched a new high definition news channel on Orbit Showtime, the pay TV provider has announced.

Content on the channel will include live video feeds from breaking stories and real-time analysis from Sky News specialist correspondents, the statement said.

Sky News HD launched on July 26 and increases OSN’s offering to 75 premium channels, including 10 in HD, the first of which were launched in February.

The pay TV provider said in the same statement that more than 50,000 customers subscribe to the HD package.

OSN is owned and operated by Panther Media Group, a company registered in Dubai International Financial Centre and is owned by Orbit Group and KIPCO.

All 75 channels on Orbit Showtime Network (OSN) will be in high-definition by the end of 2012, the company's CEO and president said last month.

Marc-Antoine d’Halluin added that the TV firm intended to switch off all standard-resolution services six months later.
