The St Regis Doha hotel has linked up with a prestigious US club to bring New York-style jazz to the Qatari capital, the general manager of the new hotel told Arabian Business.
The US$1bn new hotel, which opened in April, has linked up with the Lincoln Centre jazz club to open its first venue outside the US.
“I think this is definitely going to be a signature venue and we are trying to position it as the venue for the region, not only for Doha,” said general manager Tareq Derbas.
“Every two weeks, we are going to bring jazz bands from New York… It is a hefty exercise for us but it is worth it as it is one of our passion points as a brand and I think the partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center is going to be fabulous.”
The 120-seat club will be modeled on Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in Manhattan, with the same curved interior walls, open sightlines, superb acoustics and glass exterior wall with a vista.
According to The New York Times, Qatari private developer Omar Alfardan is to invest US$20m developing the club.
