W Hotels Worldwide, part of Marriott International, has opened its first property in Jordan. The 280-room hotel, the W Amman, is located in downtown neighborhood Abdali, and features design inspired by Jordanian history, culture and tradition, mixed with a playful, modern twist.
The hotel is developed by Eagle Hills Jordan, an Abu Dhabi-based investment and development firm chaired by Mohammed Alabbar, best known for his Dubai-based giant Emaar.
The project will follow three more hotel collaborations with Marriott International, including The St. Regis Amman, The Westin Saraya Aqaba and Al Manara Saraya Aqaba.
Commenting on the opening, Alex Kyriakidis, President and Managing Director, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International said, “Amman is an ideal destination for the W brand with its engaging social scene and growing passion for design, music and fashion.”
W Amman offers views of the city’s seven hills running across the capital.
Upon arrival, guests are greeted with the brand’s signature W sign, inspired by Amman’s cityscape and cubic architecture, in the colors of Jordan’s sunset. The hotel’s façade invokes the Petra’s rock formations, reminiscent of the Nabatean city, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. It includes a ‘Canyon Walk’ reinterpreting Petra’s canyon with shard structures and natural tones.
Each of the hotel’s 236 rooms and 44 suites feature floor-to-ceiling windows and signature W beds and modern bathrooms with rain showers. Pillows and throws feature an illustrative interpretation of the Amman skyline and an adapted rendition of desert camels in colourful detail.
The hotel features a range of suites including four WOW Suites and a 1,710-square-foot Extreme WOW Suite (the brand’s take on the Presidential suite) with panoramic city views, an in-room DJ deck, amplified entertainment system and private Jacuzzi.
