The current number one song in the UK singles chart has been banned by some radio stations in the UAE for racy lyrics that include the phrase, "I kissed a girl and I liked it."

The controversial song by Katy Perry, also number three in the US singles chart, has drawn criticism for some quarters for promoting lesbianism and promiscuity, and rasied fears about the influence of Western culture and music on Arab youths.

UAE daily Gulf News reported on Tuesday that Gulf News Broadcasting and other radio stations in the Emirates have boycotted the popular track, although some stations are continuing to air the song.

then do not listen to it (or read the book or watch the movie). This may shock some people but you can actually switch off the tv/radio/computer.

I can tell that most of the people commenting are either not Muslims or they lack the understanding about same sex relationships in the muslim world. What ever you want to do in your own privacy is up to you, but you cannot openly embrace same sex intimacy this way!Its not right becuase its a muslim society. you have to respect that! Its not about bad lyrics guys come on!its about promoting lesbians and gays. Just respect that and please lets just stop making a fuss about the banning of this song. I dont think it should be played if they always beep out the bad lyrics on the rap songs that i hear on the radio. And to the person who made the comment that the rappers are uneducated. You obviously don't know how much work and thought it takes to get something sounding that good as you probably dance to it always.

so let me get this straight, song is no good, but bars are ok? come on its a song! and what about all those darn snoop dogg tracks?

just take a trip into some of the stores in Dubai. Pull & Bear and Milano are two where i recently had to ask the manager to change their music. What was being played was un-cut gangster rap and the words were terrible. Its not the sort of music that people should hear and should be banned from the Arab world. I haven't heard this song but is seems to be no where near as bad as some of the rappers songs. Why is it some artists must swear in their lyrics? Perhaps they are uneducated?

Thought it was a very creative piece of art being a writer myself, however my first thought the time i heard it was i couldn't believe it was being embraced by the radio stations in what is still considered a islamic country. I don't think it should be played here to respect the culture. But I did have alot of fun making fun and singing the song to everyone of my friends.
