US firm scoops key Qatar 2022 contract

US-based consulting, engineering and construction major CH2M Hill has picked up a key contract to help deliver Qatar’s 2022 World Cup tournament.

The firm beat off stiff competition from five other multinational companies to win the programme management consultant contract from the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee.

The Supreme Committee is responsible for building all the proposed stadiums and training sites for the World Cup, as well as helping coordinate major associated infrastructure works such as the New Doha International Airport and the upcoming metro network.

Over the next six months, CH2M Hill will help the Supreme Council provide a delivery timeline of the Qatar 2022 projects over the next decade. Its role will also continue for two years after the tournament to complete “legacy commitments”.

"Our work with CH2M HILL in planning delivering a successful World Cup will require cooperation with and assistance from local stakeholders and partners, from both public and private sectors,” said Hassan Al Thawadi, the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee secretary general.

“The road ahead will be challenging. Today's appointment is a key initial milestone on our journey."
