In Saudi Arabia fatality rates from a deadly new virus are now reported to be 41 percent, up from the previously estimated rate of 33 percent.

A first case of the potentially fatal Middle East Respiratory Virus (MERS) has been detected in the US. The male patient was on a flight from Riyadh to London Heathrow, from where he flew to the US. The virus has killed more than 100 people in Saudi Arabia, but little is known about it and there is to date no vaccine.
