$11mn expansion for Dubai mall

Dubai's Deira City Centre mall will open an AED40 million precinct to house 24 outlets over the next three months.

Dubai’s Deira City Centre mall will open 24 outlets over the next three months, officials announced on Tuesday.

A AED40 million ($10.9 million) shopping precinct is being built to house the stores, which include brands such as Splash, Boots, Shoe Mart, Mothercare, Pablosky, Wrangler and Bata.

The expansion is part of the AED350 million ($95.3 million) redevelopment programme that began last year to upgrade the centre's facilities.

With the new additions, the total number of retailers in the centre will rise to 370.

Fareed AbdelRahman, vice President of Deira City Centre, said: “The idea is to offer more choices to the customers, who are on the look out for the finest brands from across the globe.”

The announcement follows the arrival of other major international brands such as Next and River Island.

GAP and Banana Republic are also set to open stores in City Centre.

During the first quarter over 5.3 million people visited City Centre, 3% higher than the same period last year, AbdelRahman said, with retailers recording a 6% increase in sales year-on-year.
