Qatari Diar Vinci Construction (QDVC) has been awarded a QR1.22bn ($335m) contract to design and build an underground car park in Doha’s West Bay district, local media reports on Sunday.

The 2,000-space car park will be located in front of the Sheraton Doha hotel and will be fitted with an electronic system to notify motorists of vacant spaces.

The contract also includes landscaped gardens covering a total of 73,000 sq m, a cut-and-cover tunnel between the car park and the under construction Doha convention centre, and a maintenance depot and command centre for the Doha light railway system.

Construction work is set to last for 34 months, according to reports.

QDVC is owned by Qatari Diar, which holds a 51 percent stake, and Vinci Construction Grands Projets of France, which holds 49 percent.
