$40M Sheraton facelift nears end

The multi-stage, three year revamp of the Abu Dhabi location is heading for a July completion date.

The $40 million refurbishment of the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Resort and Towers is nearing completion. The three year project has taken place in several phases, beginning with the completion of the Palm Resort in the hotel complex, moving on to the refurbishment of 100 guest rooms, followed by the reopening of the lobby, conference area and restaurant outlets.Final completion is scheduled for July when the final touches will be put to another 172 guest rooms.“This is the flagship hotel in Abu Dhabi, it reflects the image of the UAE capital, so the end product had to be particularly special – and it is,” said Robert van Meerendonk, general manager. “I am particularly proud of all aspects of the renovations because this is more than a hotel refurbishment, it’s a work of art.”Meerendonk went on to say the hotel still gives guests a warm welcome, whilst marrying modernity with tradition in its design. The refurbished hotel will boast nine restaurants and six conference rooms, two daylight meeting rooms, a pillarless ballroom and an open air amphitheatre. “Nothing has been left to chance over the three years to ensure the job was done perfectly. No-one takes any short-cuts here,” said Meerendonk.
