UAE-based beauty expert stresses the reality TV star is “not necessarily the right role model”

'Middle Eastern women relate to Kim Kardashian', says Huda Kattan

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian is a common source of beauty inspiration amongst Middle Eastern women, according to beauty business mogul Huda Kattan.

“[Women] here relate to Kim because they look like her. Who else do you have to look to other than Salma Hayek? We don’t really have that many women to look to [in terms of celebrities],” she told Arabian Business in an exclusive interview.

Kardashian, who stands out in Hollywood for her distinctive Armenian features and curvy figure, resembles many Arab women with similar looks and body types.

However, the Dubai-based beauty blogger and business owner stressed that the star was not necessarily the best role model.

“The Kardashians aren’t necessarily the right role models, but they do represent beauty in the region for sure,” she said.

Kattan explained that through her cosmetics brand, Huda Beauty, she’s trying to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western beauty to create something in the region for women to look up to.

Best known as the number one beauty blogger and influencer in the Middle East and one of the top in the field across the world, Kattan holds under her firm a line of best-selling false lashes, false nails, temporary henna tattoos, and a lip contouring kit yet to be launched in the market.

On allegations that beauty trends in the Middle East are exaggerated and “too fake,” Kattan said, “People here know beauty. They know how to do their lip liner, they know how to do their brows, and they know how to do their eyeliner. Some people tell me oh don’t you think it’s a bit old-fashioned. And maybe it is, it might be over the top, but I love that.”

Her followers seem to agree, as Kattan’s impressive following of over 12 million on her social media accounts continue to grow rapidly on a daily basis.
