“No escaping me”, ex Dubai police chief warns Brotherhood

Dahi Khalfan hits out at Islamists days after leaving Dubai police’s top job

“No escaping me”, ex Dubai police chief warns Brotherhood

Dubai’s former police chief has warned the Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters that he will continue to keep an eye on the Islamist group, which he has consistently been a vocal critic of.

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan, head of the emirate’s police force between 1980 and 2013, came into the global spotlight when he led the investigation into the assassination of Hamas commander Mahmoud Al Mabhouh in 2010, allegedly by Israel’s Mossad spy agency.

Khalfan was earlier this year promoted to the role of deputy chairman of police and general security, and was succeeded as commander-in-chief this month by Major General Khamis Matar Al Mazeina.

Khalfan has been one of the Gulf state’s most outspoken critics of Islamist movements in the region.

“O Brotherhood, I want tell you I am in the police and public security’s top leadership and there’s no escaping me,” he posted on social networking site Twitter on November 23.

Khalfan has previously accused the Muslim Brotherhood, whose political wing was elected to power in Egypt in 2012 before being ousted earlier this year, of sowing dissent in Gulf Arab states. "They want to change regimes that have been ruling for a long time, but they also want to rule forever,” he told Reuters in an interview earlier this year. “We have evidence this group was planning to overthrow rulers in the Gulf region."

In July, UAE authorities convicted 69 citizens of being part of an Islamist plot that intended to overthrow the government. They were each sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
