An Emirati woman who murdered American schoolteacher Ibolya Ryan at a shopping mall on Reem Island, Abu Dhabi last December has been sentenced to death.
Alaa Bader Abdullah Al Hashemi was found guilty of stabbing Ryan to death with a large kitchen knife in a toilet stall in Boutik Mall, The National reported on Monday.
She carried out the attacked shrouded in a full black veil - earning her the nickname of the Reem Island Ghost.
Al Hashemi reportedly smiled and waved at her father and brother, as she was led away from court following the announcement of the sentence.
She was also convicted of creating a handmade bomb that she planted in front of an apartment owned by an Egyptian-American doctor.
The bomb, which was placed outside an apartment in a building on the Corniche, failed to detonate due to a glitch in the safety feature.
Al Hashemi was also convicted of using an online account to spread information that ridiculed and harmed the country and of sending money to Al Qaeda in Yemen.
