Moroccan-born Hynd Bouhia was handpicked to help run Morocco’s bourse
by the country’s then Prime Minister Driss Jettou in 2004. The Harvard graduate
became his economic advisor, in charge of attracting foreign investment. Bouhia
flourished in the role, helping to secure a $700m US grant to aid private enterprises.
In 2008 she was promoted to second in command of the country’s
stock exchange, which is the third largest bourse in Africa.
Today she oversees 77 listed securities with a total market capitialisation of $66.3bn.
Prior to her appointment as economic adviser, Bouhia spent eight
years working at the World Bank, focusing on economic development and water and
environmental policies in emerging economies.
