Industry: Construction and Industry
Company: Society for Petroleum Engineers (Middle East)
Designation: Regional Director
Few, if any, women have risen to the elite tier of management in the global oil and gas industry. Certainly in the Middle East only a handful can be said to wield any significant influence. Bucking that trend is Hosnia Hashem, who is deputy managing director of the North Kuwait asset of Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), one of the ten largest oil companies in the world.
A further string to her bow is the regional directorship of the Society for Petroleum Engineers, a position she was elected to in 2009.
Within that geographical footprint lie fully 60 percent of the world’s oil reserves. But Hashem has not been content just with her work in the energy sector. Within Kuwait itself, she is a well-known advocate for women, and is an energetic supporter of female empowerment within the workplace.
