Raja Ben Slama is a vocal proponent of the Arab spring uprisings. She is a professor of Arab civilisation at Manouba University in Tunis, the founder of the Tunisian Cultural Association to Defend Laicism, and a critic of political Islam. In a recent interview to discuss the current problems facing North African nations post-Arab spring with the Egypt Independent newspaper, she spoke out against the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, especially in Egypt. She was a jury member for the Booker Prize for Arabic novels in 2010.
