The 39-year-old Egyptian journalist, blogger and human rights activist was a prominent figure in the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak from power in 2011. Negm who has also keen critical of the army generals that have been running the country behind the scenes was attacked in January 2012 outside a TV station. Negm is the daughter of leftist satirical poet Ahmed Fouad, who was also a critic of the Mubarak era and had been imprisoned by his predecessor Anwar Sadat. Negm attended Ain Shams University.
