100 new stores come on line since Dubai Mall opening

Shops open for business at rate of three a day at new mall during first month of operation.

One hundred new stores have opened in The Dubai Mall since it was launched at the beginning on November, it was announced on Thursday.

Less than half of the total of 1,200 retail units were ready for business when the new mall opened on Nov. 4 but 100 new stores have been added in less than a month, bosses said.

Mall chiefs added that new retailers are opening their stores daily, as they continue to complete fit-out operations, and the majority of The Dubai Mall's 1,200 stores will be operational by early 2009 including Galeries Lafayette, one of the mall's two key anchor department stores.

Bloomingdale's, the other key anchor will open in 2010. The new stores that have opened in the past month include several flagship stores and unique retailers to the region.

Yousif Al Ali, general manager, The Dubai Mall, said in comments published by news service Propertywire.com: "In less than a month, about 100 retailers have opened their stores, several of them flagship stores for the region.

"The continual opening of new stores on a daily basis gives mall visitors a wider choice to complement the upcoming festive season sales."

Among the stores that have come online since The Dubai Mall opened are fashion and accessories brands Cole Haan, Saccor Brothers, Manolo Blahnik, Karen Millen, Just Cavalli, Diesel, Tru Trussardi, CK, Coach and Burberry.

The flagship stores Nivea Haus, a concept health and beauty store and the Kinokuniya bookstore from Japan, have also both opened.

When complete, the mall will have 1,200 retail outlets in all, and more than 160 food and beverage outlets including two food courts.
