Company: Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC)

Designation: Chairman and President

Said T. Khoury remains on the Power List for 2013 ‘though he is 90 years old, and his son Samer, the director and executive vice president of operations, aged 52, is considered by many to be the driving force of the Consolidated Contractors Company.

But Khoury senior’s involvement in the Arab Monetary Fund, his chairmanship of the Palestinian Businessmen Organisation and the International Business Group makes his influence enormous in this region and consequently his place in the top 10 of this year’s Power 100 a certainty.

Khoury set up the business with his brother-in-law Hasib Sabbagh in Beirut in the early 1950s.

Today the Consolidated Contractors Company is one of the largest Arab international construction companies operating not only in the Middle East but across the world.

The success of CCC is rooted in the early 1960s, with Sabbagh and Khoury securing a contract to build oil pipe storage facilities for the Iraq Petroleum Company, which entailed working with the Bechtel Group, the world’s largest construction company.

Khoury, who owns 60% of the company, is known for developing CCC’s family corporate culture in hugely successful construction projects throughout the region.

He is also a significant supporter of philanthropic activities in Palestine.

This month it was announced Khoury would receive the HCEF Palestinian Diaspora Award given to individuals who have sustained commitment to revitalise Palestinian culture.

“Unselfishly, Mr Khoury has made his success, the success of Palestine.” said Sir Rateb Rabie, HCEF’s CEO.

Khoury currently holds, or has held, among others, the following positions: governor of Arab Monetary Fund, chairman of the Palestinian Businessmen Organisation, chairman of Palestine Electrical Company, Gaza, and member of the Board of Trustees for the Bethlehem Foundation (Washington, DC).
