Designation: Interim CEO
A civil engineer with over 23 years of experience in construction, Nadim Akhras was appointed interim CEO of Dubai-based fit-out contractor Depa in October 2013 following the departure of co-founder Mohannad Sweid.
The firm has undergone a major shake-up since Arabtec bought a 24% stake in November 2012 and former Arabtec CEO Hasan Ismaik was made chairman. In June, shareholders will vote at its AGM on whether it can raise $270mn through the issue of convertible bonds. The proceeds will be used to stabilise its balance sheet and pursue potential acquisitions.
Akhrass said the company has worked on complex projects such as the interiors of King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center in Riyadh for Saudi Aramco. He said: “The cellular structure of crystalline forms, a design by Zaha Hadid, features many architectural challenges and allows us to showcase our capabilities in terms of engineering, materials and execution.”
Akhrass has also previously worked on the Burj Khalifa.
