Company: Goldline Contracting
After more than 40 years in business – most of which has been spent in contracting, Dr Anand has discovered that the best way of ensuring he gets paid as a contractor is to become his own client.
He has built Goldline from a start-up into an operation with around 4,000 employees and a turnover of $680mn which is, in his own words, “growing very, very fast”.
Like others, though, he discovered during the downturn that even if it did all that can be expected of it as a contractor, it sometimes still ended up with unpaid bills. Dr Anand, who is a medical doctor by training, has decided that his best way of countering this is to build his own projects.
He has been steadily buying up land plots around Dubai over the past 18 months and currently has more than 20 which he has earmarked for future development in areas such as Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Sports City and Business Bay.
The contracting business, meanwhile, continues to pick up work from a variety of sources. It has recently completed the Prime Hospital project in Garhoud for Prime Healthcare/Al Ghurair Group and is working on the 20-storey Burj Pacific residential tower for Pacific Ventures and the DEC Corporate Bay tower in Business Bay. It is also building the twin-towered Silver Stallion Towers in Jumeirah Village Circle.
