Company: Habtoor Leighton Group
Designation: CEO and managing director
One of the leading diversified international contractors in Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) employs more than 20,000 people in the region. The company was formed in 2007 and has an extensive track record of working on large-scale projects across the region.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the construction sector, José Antonio López-Monís joined the company as its chief executive officer and managing director in October 2012. Things started looking up for the company when it bagged the contract to provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) works for the latest stage of one of Dubai’s largest construction projects, Jewel of the Creek.
The company considers Qatar to be a very important market, and over the past 12 months, the contractor has picked up several new projects in the gas-rich Emirate, including the $59.9m road project, the Azizya east, located about 9km west of Central Doha; and a $608m contract by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to build the world’s largest reinforced concrete reservoirs in the country.
Earlier this year, HLG also won a $95m contract to develop the luxury beachfront five-star Saraya Bandar Jissah hotel in Oman.
