Hassan Al Thawadi holds the position of Secretary General of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee (Q2022SC), the organisation responsible for coordinating readiness for the 2022 World Cup, following his role as CEO of the Bid Committee that won the FIFA showpiece for the Middle East for the first time. Al Thawadi is also General Counsel at Qatar Investment Authority and Qatar Holding. Q2022SC is currently overseeing the building of infrastructure related to five of the eight planned stadia, including the 60,000-seater Al Bayt stadium at Al Khor City; the 40,000 capacity Al Wakrah stadium; and the 40,000-seat Khalifa stadium – a renovation project and the site of the Aspire Zone, where Qatar’s 2022 squad is training.
