Ramboll enjoyed a positive year in 2015, with total revenues amounting to $1.59bn (EUR1.4bn). In the Middle East, the company’s revenue was $59m (EUR52m), accounting for 4% of the group’s overall earnings.

Richard Beard, managing director of Ramboll Middle East, was justifiably pleased with this performance. He toldConstruction Week: “Ramboll’s activity level was generally high in 2015 and, as a result, the revenue growth for the group was 27%, with organic growth counting for 1.5%.”

Between June 2015 and May 2016, Beard’s team completed a series of high-profile UAE projects. Ramboll conducted conceptual landscape design at Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City; acted as the designer of record for relief aircraft parking at Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC); provided design and technical services for the maintenance and improvement of roadways and structures in Abu Dhabi Mainland; and performed the role of lead consultant at Damac Heights.

During the coming year, the firm will support construction activities at the Port of Salalah in Oman, and the Golf Course Community and Doha Metro Green Line in Qatar. Further afield, in Lebanon, Ramboll’s Innovative Design (iD) & Facades has secured a contract to provide design and construction supervision consultancy at Beirut’s North Souks – a project designed by the late Zaha Hadid on behalf of developer Solidere.

“iD & Facades is using advanced computational design and parametric modelling techniques to carry out geometric and engineering analysis to develop and optimise the geometry, system design, and overall constructability of the building envelope,” explained Beard.

From a strategic perspective, the Ramboll Middle East MD will continue with his focused approach to regional growth. “Our challenge for the next 12 months will be to improve our efficiencies and nimbleness to meet market trends,” Beard told CW. “We are not setting out to be the biggest; our goal is to continue to be Ramboll and what we stand for.”
