17-year old second to die after gunfire celebration goes hideously wrong
A second Emirati wedding guest
who was accidentally hit by bullets shot into the air during celebrations at a
wedding in Fujairah on Friday has died of his injuries, it was reported on
The guest, named as 17-year old
Ali Saeed Al Hafeeti, died at Fujairah Hospital following surgery to repair
bullet wounds to his head.
Dr Mohammed bin Saeed, director
of the Fujeirah medical zone, was quoted as saying the victim died after the
bullet penetrated his skull and entered his brain.
A fellow guest, 26-year old Saeed
Al Saraedy, died on arrival to the hospital on Friday, while a third victim,
Walid Hafeety was released after only minor injuries.
The three guests were injured
when they were hit by bullets fired into the air as part of gunfire celebrations
at a local wedding.
Fujairah police are currently
investigating the matter. “Our men went to the wedding site to investigate the
incident, which we believe happened by accident,” Fujairah Police Chief
Brigadier Mohammed al Kaabi was quoted as saying by Arabic daily newspaper Al
Shooting guns as part of
celebrations has been banned in the UAE since the 1970s and police have said
anyone caught breaking the law will be prosecuted.
