How do you describe yourself?

My ethos is centred around living a consciously humble life. I enjoy a good laugh, love my blues/rock music and interacting with people. I am restless, zealous, driven and fearless in my pursuit of exceeding my own expectations.

I am beguiled by market dynamics, a consumer’s mind and the nuances of inspiring both subtle and high impact change.

What do others say about you?

I have been told that, I can unravel the many layers that make a person, evoking latent qualities not previously valued. They say that, I can give a person or a group of people the means to take control of their lives and become stronger and independent. I have also been told that I can relate and connect with my team on all levels.

What’s your greatest achievement in life?

My two beautiful children, Clive and Karen - I learn from them each day. They make my wife Audrey and I, incredibly proud.

Michael Mascarenhas, CEO of Desert Group. says the opportunity to inspire a team to think and create to the “point of explosion” is fascinating.

Your greatest achievement in business?

Life has been incredibly exciting and there have been many “back flips on Mount Everest” moments. From the resuscitation and transformation of Desert Group to one of the largest concentrically diversified horticultural organisations, to some high-octane moments in the Aerospace and Financial Services sectors and equally inspiring moments in the Oil Drilling and Private Equity industries. Each moment of my business life has been celebratory.

What do you enjoy the most about working at your company?

I enjoy the opportunity to firestorm thinking capabilities of teams, creating super self-belief, unlocking potential and opening the creative magma chamber of both an organisation and also in individuals. The opportunity to inspire a team to think and create to the “point of explosion” is fascinating.

What virtue do you admire most in other people?

Integrity.

What inspires you?

Creating business and life success.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

I lead a very simple life. I love rock concerts and enjoy the opportunity to be with my friends, to the point of playing air guitar competitively. I am also a School of Rock trained air guitarist!
