3Com integrates additional security into products

3Com is planning to offer enterprises end-to-end network security and, as such, has expanded the capabilities of three key products.

3Com is introducing a plethora of enhancements to its switches, firewalls and management solutions, as it looks to boost security at the network edge. The vendor is keen to provide enterprises with end-to-end network security and, as such, has expanded the capabilities of its SuperStack 3 Switch 4400, SuperStack 3 firewall and Network Supervisor products. The 4400 switch will receive a security boost from its latest software release (version 3.0), which will add Network Login 802.1x support and enable administrators to identify every user on the network. 802.1x capabilities have also been incorporated into 3Com’s Network Supervisor Advanced solution, allowing administrators to track and identify every user, ascertain which switch they are connected to, and combat user problems or hackers more effectively.Additionally, 3Com’s firewall solution now supports Microsoft VPN (virtual private network) clients, wide area network (WAN) bandwidth prioritisation and dual security zones, which enable users to secure two separate networks through a single firewall.“Security should be woven into the very fabric of a business. 3Com’s security enhancements make deploying, controlling and managing tamper-resistant enterprises networks as simple as possible without compromising flexibility and versatility,” says Patrick Guay, vice president & general manager, 3Com LAN infrastructure division. “Our development strategy is based on a practical approach to address customers’ security needs that span the total network. Customers can deploy 3Com security solutions where and how they need to in order to meet their business needs,” he adds.
