Any doubts about 3Com's commitment to the enterprise sector should be silenced by its biggest ever product launch today.
3Com has announced the launch of a wide range of networking products for the commercial sector. The new products, the largest range ever launched by the company, are intended to provide faster, more secure Internet access for enterprise users.
“Today we are taking the hottest networking technologies, making them drop dead easy to use and delivering the entire solution at the best possible value,” said Bruce Claflin, president and COO of 3Com. “Just as 3Com lead the transition from 10 Mbits/s to 10/100 Mbits/s Ethernet, 3Com is now leading the transition to gigabit Ethernet. Today’s network applications are driving the demand for ever faster networking at affordable prices.”
The product range comprises several elements. The SuperStack switch range is updated to handle gigabit Ethernet over copper or fibre cabling, and Layer 3 switching, There are also six new additions to the range to provide easy use, low cost, 10/100/1000 Mbits/s stackable switches. A number of web-enablement products are also being launched, with a focus on ease of deployment. 3Com says that all of the new range, which includes caching, content switching and firewall security all based on SuperStack 3 switching, are deployable within fifteen minutes, against two hours for comparable offerings from other manufacturers.
Telephony products are also enhanced, with the addition of multiple language support for 3Com’s NBX-IP communications system, plus the launch of a multi-media contact centre solution for small to medium sized call centres to integrate web, telephone, fax and email communications.
A set of Bluetooth wireless products completes the launch, with a range of access points, PC cards and USB adapters on offer, to complement 3Com’s existing AirConnect wireless LAN products.
“The new gigabit Ethernet, web-enablement, telephony and wireless solutions position 3Com strongly for this surge in commercial market growth,” Claflin said. “3Com is unlike any other networking company because we will let businesses focus on their business model instead of their network topology. We believe it in our bones when we say: ‘simple sets you free’.”
