Emirati businessman Salem Al Shamsi has bought Egyptian football club Pyramids FC, the club has confirmed on social media.

"It's a pleasure to announce to the sports' fans in the Arab World in general and those in Egypt in particular the full acquisition of Pyramids FC by Mr. Salem Al Shamsi," the club said in a statement.

"This acquisition reflects the privileged relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates and endorses the sports' investment experience in Egypt which has demonstrated its success in the practice," the statement added.

The club was previously owned by Turki Al Sheikh, chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority.

Al Sheikh brought the club last year, when it was called Al Assiouty football club, and changed its name to Pyramids FC.

Al Shamsi was previously Pyramid FC’s vice president.
