5 simple ways to a healthier lifestyle

Dr Helle Kaerskov, founder of Total Health chiropractic clinic in Dubai offer tips on how to lead a healthier life

5 simple ways to a healthier lifestyle

With the help of Dr Helle Kaerskov, founder of Total Health chiropractic clinic in Dubai, Arabian Business brings you 5 simple ways to a healthier lifestyle.

1. Spinal adjustment

Dr. Helle recommends seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis to make sure your spine is in alignment and the nerves are reaching where they need to. She says effective chiropractic alignment can provide pain relief from migraines, back pain, arm pain, and shortness of breath.

2. Sugar or no sugar?

According to the doctor, an average person eats around 74kgs of sugar a year. For ideal health, this number can be reduced to about 1kg. “Sugar is an inflammatory that’s responsible or contributes to a range of health problems from weight gain and heart disease to depression; by eliminating it from the diet often sees patients enjoy increased energy, vitality and endless health benefits,” says Dr. Helle.

3. Say bye to trans-fats and hello to Omega3

Omega3 is sugar’s opposite. It’s an anti-inflammatory that stables blood sugar levels and reduces the risk of heart attacks, strokes and heart disease. Dr. Helle says it will also result in better skin and increased energy, as well as help with illnesses like asthma, cancer, depression and arthritis.

4. Got milk?

Ditch the tea and coffee and replace them with milk. According to the Dairy Council of California, one cup of low-fat milk produced in California contains 10 grams of protein per cup. And a 120 pound woman who exercises excessively would need 60-90 grams of protein a day. So, if 6 cups of milk can easily provide a person with enough energy and protein to have a hard core work out, imagine how much it can help at work. Another study published in Age & Aging revealed that a child that consumes one glass of milk a day had a 5% faster walking time and a 25% lesser chance of having poor balance in older age.

5. Practice gratitude and appreciation

Dr. Helle swears by gratitude and appreciation. She says that the more you practice gratitude, the more things you’ll have to be grateful for. “Where your focus goes, your energy flows; it is the law of attraction. More creates more,” she says. Our advice is to take two minutes every day to mentally mention five things that you’re grateful for in your life.

As for Dr. Helle, she understands that a large percentage of UAE residents don’t have the means to get regular health checks. That’s why she has developed a 21-day programme to help people lead a healthier life.

As part of the discounted programme, patients will visit the clinic three times a week for a health evaluation and rehabilitation programme. The programme will consist of a food plan, exercise routine, and chiropractic care and consultation.
